
Air Force beat VMI, 12-8, in lacrosse

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - Freshman Chris Walsch scored five goals and senior Keith Dreyer scored four as Air Force beat VMI, 12-8, in a college lacrosse game, Sunday, March 8, in Bethesda, Md. Air Force improved to 3-4 overall while VMI fell to 0-6.
Air Force took the early lead and never trailed in the game. Dreyer scored at 11:03 of the first quarter and Christopher Allen scored late in the first for a 2-0 lead. After a man-up goal by VMI's Tom Nofi, Air Force scored four straight for a 6-1 lead. Dreyer scored late in the first and Allen scored early in the second for a 4-1 lead. After back-to-back goals by Walsch, the second in a man-up situation, Air Force had a 6-1 lead.
VMI scored two goals late in the second quarter and two early in the third to cut the Falcon lead to 6-5. Keydet Wesley Sanders scored twice during that stretch for VMI. Just 30 seconds after Sanders cut the Air Force lead to 6-5, Walsch scored a pair of goals to put the Falcons back up by three. Dreyer scored with 1:13 left in the quarter and Allen scored with one second left for a 10-5 lead at the end of the third. Walsch's fifth of the game gave Air Force an 11-5 lead early in the fourth quarter. Midway through the fourth quarter, goals by Brad Nardella and Tyler Prasnicki cut the Falcon lead to 11-7. Dreyer's fourth of game gave the Falcons a 12-7 lead. VMI's Dan Bull scored with 1:13 remaining to make the final score 12-8.
Three Falcons combined for Air Force's 12 goals as Walsch had five, Dreyer had four and Allen had three. Walsch and Nate Hruby each had two assists for the Falcons. Air Force outshot VMI, 36-23, in the game. Junior goalie Doug Gouchoe made six saves for the Falcons.
After five straight road games, the Falcons return home to host Detroit Mercy on Saturday, March 14, at noon at Falcon Stadium.
