
Men Second, Women Fourth at New Mexico Quad

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Highlighted by the third-fastest 400-meter hurdles time in program history from sophomore Sydney Rohlwing, the Air Force track and field team wrapped up competition at the New Mexico Quadrangular this afternoon (April 10) in Albuquerque. Rohlwing was one of two Falcons to impact the Academy record book on Friday.
Clocking a career-best time of 62.64 in the 400-meter hurdles, Rohlwing jumped from eighth to third on the Academy's all-time list, while setting a new Sophomore Class Record. Classmate Stephanie Robb also impacted the program's top-10 standings this afternoon, as she clocked the ninth-fastest 800-meter time in Academy history (2:11.96 adjusted for altitude).
Junior Spencer Baldwin and freshman Jackson Spaulding picked up event titles for the Falcons, as the pair led a quartet of Air Force competitors in their respective events. Baldwin tossed a career-best 175'3" in the hammer throw, while Spalding recorded a distance of 154'11" in the discus throw.
Sophomore Tyler Ginger recorded a career-best clearance of 14'9" to tie for second in the pole vault, while senior Kyle Gartrell and freshman Tyler Berson finished fourth (career-best 14'3¼") and fifth (debut of 12'9½"), respectively. Gartrell added scoring finishes in the triple jump (third, 45'7") and long jump (fourth, season-best 22'3¾"), while Berson finished third in the high jump (debut of 5'7¾") and led off the 4x400-meter relay team that placed second behind a time of 3:25.98.
Berson was joined on the relay by classmates Calvin Berstler and Connor Severino, while senior Siotame Latu ran the anchor leg. Latu was also one of two top-five finishers in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking a career-best 54.66 to finish fifth behind freshman Chip White (debut 54.52).
Newcomer Robbie Anderson (third, 11.23) paced a trio of freshmen in the 100-meter dash (Cody Ray, 11.25; Cam Elliott, 11.58), while adding an additional third-place finish in the 200-meter dash (22.22). Ray also scored for Air Force at 200 meters, taking fifth with a debut time of 22.38. Seniors Casey Riggs and Edmond Duvall placed fourth (season-best 15.24) and fifth (season-debut of 15.46), respectively, in the 110-meter hurdles, while sophomore Matt Dorsey closed out the men's field with a fifth-place time of 1:52.93 (season-best) in the 800-meter run.
In addition to the third-place finishes from Rohlwing and Robb, the women accounted for five additional top-five placements. Freshman Ryan Vicek was the runner-up in the javelin throw (122'0"), while sophomores Emily Smithwick and Ashley Morgan placed third in the pole vault (career-best 11'2¼") and hammer throw (135'2"), respectively. On the track, junior Anna Olesinski and senior Heather Connick added top-five finishes in the 1500-meter run, as Olesinski placed fourth in her outdoor debut (5:04.77) and Connick finished fifth with a season-best time of 5:11.32.
The men combined for 161 points to finish second, while the women placed fourth with 46.50.
Air Force continues its weekend on the road tomorrow (April 10), when the rest of the squad competes at the Texas Invitational at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin. The first event - the women's hammer throw - is slated to begin at 10 a.m. (CT).
