
Decathletes Wrap Up Action at California Invitational

AZUSA, Calif. - Freshmen Tyler Berson and Calvin Berstler wrapped up decathlon competition at the Mt. SAC/California Invitational Multi-Events Meet this evening (April 16) in Azusa. Berson finished his first decathlon with 5,750 points to finish 13th, while Berstler placed 15th in his collegiate debut, with 5,216 points.
Berson earned the pair's highest event finish of the day, clocking a 1500-meter debut of 4:50.10 to finish sixth. The freshman matched his career best in the pole vault (12'9½") to finish 11th and set a new personal-best mark of 95'10" in the discus to tie for 12th. Berson rounded out the day with a 14th-place throw of 119'1" in the javelin and a 15th-place time of 17.49 in the 110-meter hurdles.
Berstler earned a pair of top-10 placements on the second day of competition, finishing ninth in the 110-meter hurdles (16.17) and 10th in the 1500-meter run (4:54.82). He also tied for 12th in the discus (debut 95'10") and finished 16th in the javelin (debut 102'4"), while recording a no-height in his first pole vault.
Two members of the Air Force distance squad will open the 57th-annual Mt. SAC Relays later this evening, while the rest of the squad will return to Azusa Pacific University tomorrow (April 17) morning for the Bryan Clay Invitational.
