WALNUT, Calif. - Sophomore Lindy Long recorded the fifth-fastest 10,000-meter time in Academy history tonight (April 16) under the lights of Historic Hilmer Lodge Stadium in Walnut, Calif., as two members of the Air Force track and field team opened competition at the 57th-annual Mt. SAC Relays.
Competing in the first 10K race of her career, Long clocked a time of 36:13.29 to debut on the program's all-time list. In addition to recording the fifth-fastest time in Academy history, Long also accounted for a new Sophomore Class Record, deleting 30 seconds from the program's previous 2011 standard.
Long is the second Falcon this season to record a top-five time in the women's 10,000-meter run, and the second to impact the program's Class Records in that event.
Senior Riley Coates also competed at Mt. SAC on Thursday, finishing second in his section of the 10K. Clocking a career-best time of 29:58.66, Coates was one of just three runners in the 33-man race to break the 30-minute mark.
The Falcons continue action on their California road trip tomorrow (April 17), when the squad splits for continuation at the Mt. SAC Relays and Bryan Clay Invitational.
