
Falcon Baseball Sweeps Saturday Doubleheader Against Fresno State

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force baseball completed a doubleheader sweep of Fresno State Saturday afternoon at Falcon Field. The Falcons took game one 2-1 and game two 10-1, improving to 18-19, 10-10 MW. Air Force has now won eight in a row at home.
In game one, leftfielder Tyler Jones hit a walkoff home run on the first pitch he saw in the ninth inning to lift the Falcons to the dramatic win. Sophomore Griffin Jax (3-6) tossed a complete-game seven-hitter in the win for AFA.
The Falcons plated a run in the first on a ground out by Jones that scored centerfielder Adam Groesbeck. Fresno State (18-21, 9-8) tied the game up in the fifth with a run.
Air Force played outstanding defense, turning four double plays in the game, including a big one in the top of the ninth that cleared the bases. Jax allowed one unearned run in the game, striking out three.
The Falcons had five hits in the game. Jones led the way with two hits and two RBIs.
Fresno State starting pitcher Jake Schull (2-5) took the loss in the complete game effort. Schull struck out three. Second baseman Kenny Corey led the Bulldogs with two hits.
In game two, the Falcons pounded out 13 hits in the 10-1 win. The duo of sophomore Jacob DeVries and junior Steven Trojan (5-2) held Fresno State to six hits and one unearned run.
DeVries pitched four innings in the start, allowing one unearned, while striking out six. Trojan picked up the win with five scoreless innings in relief. The junior scattered three hits and struck out four.
Groesbeck led four Falcons with multi-hit games, going 3-for-5 with two runs, two stolen bases and an RBI. Second baseman Tyler Zabojnik added two hits and three RBIs. Rightfielder Spencer Draws had two hits and two runs, including a triple. First baseman Tyler Saleck had two hits and a run scored.
Fresno State starting pitcher Jimmy Lambert (2-1) allowed nine runs in 6.2 innings pitched. Six Bulldogs had base hits, with right fielder Aaron Arruda with an RBI.
The Falcons plated a run in the first and three in the third to go up 4-0. Fresno State scored its run in the fourth. Air Force broke the game open with five runs in the seventh and added its 10th run in the eighth.
The 10 conference wins are the second-most in the Mountain West era for the Falcons. Air Force has now claimed four series wins in conference play, the most since 2002.
The series finale is tomorrow at 1 pm.
