
Falcons earn dramatic win over Robert Morris

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -- James Burke and Chris Walsch scored in the final minute to lift Air Force to a 10-9 win over Robert Morris, in a college lacrosse game Saturday, April 18, at the Academy's Falcon Stadium. Air Force improved to 8-5 overall and has won four straight games. Robert Morris fell to 3-10.
The teams traded goals the entire game with Air Force taking the largest lead by either team at 8-5 late in the third quarter. RMU came back to score the next four goals for a 9-8 lead late in the fourth. Burke scored from Keith Dreyer with 49 seconds left to tie the game at 9-9. Dreyer then set up Walsch for the game-winner with three seconds left.
Walsch led the Falcons with three goals and added an assist. Burke had two goals and an assist. Nick Hruby had a game-high four assists while Dreyer had three.
RMU's Luke Laszkiewicz opened the scoring just 25 seconds into the game. Burke then tied the game two minutes later. Lasziewicz scored again at 4:29 of the first period for a 2-1 Colonial lead after one. Walsch's first of the game tied the game at 11:11 of the second quarter. Wales and Laszkiewicz gave the Colonials a 4-2 lead at the half.
The Falcons then scored six goals in the third quarter, including four straight. Nick Hruby scored from Dreyer at 13:47 and Austin Smith scored from Walsch at 5:26 to tie the game at 4-4. Walsch scored from Nick Hruby at 6:26 and then Christopher Allen scored man-up from Nick Hruby for a 6-4 Falcon lead. After a Colonial goal by Alexander Bohl, the Falcons added two more from Josh Radjenovich and Allen for an 8-5 lead after three quarters. The Colonials roared back with four straight goals, starting with Laszkiewicz's fourth of the game at 9:58. RMU goals by Carter Yepsen at 7:16 and James Rahe at 6:43 and Laszkiewicz at 2:27 gave the Colonials at 9-8 lead with 2:27 remaining. In the final minute, Burke tied the game with 49 seconds left and Walsch netted the game winner with three seconds left.
Air Force had a slight advantage in every statistical category, outshooting the Colonials, 44-43, winning more ground balls, 34-25, and faceoffs, 13-9. Each team had 12 turnovers.
The Falcons host the Quinnipiac Bobcats on Thursday, April 23, at 1 p.m. at Falcon Stadium. The game was originally scheduled for 7 p.m. , but was moved to 1 p.m. on the same day.
