DES MOINES, Iowa - The men's 4x800-meter relay squad clocked the fifth-fastest time in Academy history this evening (April 24) to wrap up the second day of action for the Air Force track and field team at the 106th Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.
The quartet of senior Zach Perkins, junior Grant Caswell, freshman Zac Petrie and sophomore Grant Garst combined for a time of 7:39.69 to finish 12th in the overall field at Drake Stadium. That time took more than a second off of the previous #5 time that had been listed in the program records since 1965.
Perkins and Caswell have now ran on two of the five-fastest 4x800-meter relays in program history, as the pair also ran on the 2013 squad that is ranked second.
On the field, sophomore Cydnee Reese surpassed the 160-foot mark in the discus throw for the third straight week, recording a toss of 162'8" to place fifth out of 28 throwers.
The Falcons conclude competition at the Drake Relays tomorrow (April 25), while the rest of the squad will compete at the Jack Christiansen Invitational in Fort Collins.
