USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - After breaking the Academy's 24-year-old record in her 10,000-meter run debut, junior Hannah Everson was named the Air Force co-Athlete of the Week on Monday, April 6. It is the first such award for the Colorado Springs native, who shared the weekly award with baseball's Tyler Jones.
In her first collegiate 10K, Everson recorded an Academy-record time of 34:31.48 to finish 21st under the late night lights of the Stanford Invitational on Friday, April 3. That time deleted eight seconds from the program's 24-year-old record that Callie Calhoun had held since 1991. Her time also shattered the program's Junior Class Record in that event, knocking nearly three minutes off of a mark that Suzanne Henke had held for 25 years.
Everson's 10,000-meter time, which is ranked among the NCAA West Region's top 30, marked the second time this season that she has taken down an Academy record that had stood for 24 years. During the indoor season, Everson broke Calhoun's program standard in the 5000-meter run.
The Falcons return to action next weekend, as they split for competitions at the New Mexico Quadrangular (April 10) and Texas Invitational (April 11).
