RENO, Nev. - Air Force baseball's Mountain West contest at Nevada was suspended after 10 innings of play due to rain Thursday night at Peccole Park. The Falcons and Wolf Pack are tied 6-6. The game is slated to be resumed Friday night.
Air Force (21-26, 10-16 MW) rallied with four unanswered runs to tie the game up and ultimately send the game into extra innings against the regular season MW Champions.
The Falcons trailed 6-2 after Nevada (40-12, 21-6 MW) erased an erased an early 2-0 AFA lead with six unanswered runs. The Falcons scored two runs in the seventh and scored two more in the eighth on a two-run home run by third baseman Noah to tie the game up.
Air Force escaped jams in the ninth and tenth innings with some clutch pitching from junior Trent Monaghan in the relief outing. Monaghan was able to get the final out of the ninth via strikeout and was able to retire three-straight batters in the 10th after giving up a leadoff single.
Falcon sophomore RHP Griffin Jax pitched just four innings for his shortest start of the season. Freshmen Michael Rieker and Nick Biancalana and junior Steven Trojan then came in and provided Air Force with 4.2 scoreless innings of relief.
The Falcons have nine hits so far in the game. Pierce leads the way, going 2-for-5 with two runs and three RBIs.
The game will resume at 5 pm PT. Game two of the three-game series will follows immediately upon the completion of game one.
