
Grant Hamilton Named Air Force Athlete of the Week

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - After becoming the program's first outdoor conference champion in the men's shot put and discus throw, junior Grant Hamilton was named the Air Force Athlete of the Week on Monday, May 18. It is the third award of the season for Hamilton, who led Air Force to eight gold medals at the 2015 Mountain West Championships last weekend in San Diego.
With a throw of 179'4", Hamilton became the first men's discus champion in program history on Friday, May 15, as he bettered the field by nearly two feet. He returned to the Aztec Sports Deck the next day (May 16), recording his second-best mark of the year - 59'2¼" - to become the program's first men's champion in that event.
His combined 20 points helped the Falcons to a runner-up finish in the overall team standings.
With two first-place finishes, Hamilton led the men to a program-record eight conference titles at the 2015 Mountain West Championships. He was joined at the top of the medal podium by junior Patrick Corona (5000-meter run), sophomore Kyle Eller (10,000-meter run), freshman Jamiel Trimble (110-meter hurdles), sophomore Taylor Smith (high jump), senior Joey Uhle (pole vault) and the 4x100-meter relay of Trimble, freshman Robbie Anderson, sophomore Zach Johnson and senior Jake Spuller.
The Falcons return to action on May 28-30, when several athletes travel to Austin, Texas, for the preliminary round of the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships
