EUGENE, Ore. - Air Force's Hannah Everson concluded competition at her first NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships this evening (June 11) in the 10,000-meter run at Historic Hayward Field. The junior, competing in just the third 10K race of her career, clocked a time of 35:16.09 to finish 21st in the national final.
The junior started just three spots from the inside rail and found a place within the back of the main group. As the pack began to separate, the junior started her own race with Indiana's Amanda Behnke, as the two traded positions for the majority of 10,000 meters. Everson gained the edge in the final few laps, en route to the 21st-place finish in the overall field.
In her three career races at the 10K distance, Everson broke the Academy record twice, won the West Prelim and finished 21st in the nation. She capped off a tremendous junior season that saw her set four Academy records (indoor 3000-meter run, indoor 5000-meter run, outdoor 5000-meter run, outdoor 10,000-meter run) and become just the second runner in program history to garner all-conference honors at 5000 meters.
Notre Dame's Molly Siedel won the 10,000-meter run with a time of 33:18.37, while Arkansas' Dominique Scott finished second at 33:35.81. William and Mary's Emily Stites placed third (33:26.15), while the Oregon duo of Molly Grabill and Waverly Neer finished fourth (33:26.61) and fifth (33:26.98), respectively.
The Falcons conclude action at the 2015 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships tomorrow (June 12), when Zach Perkins competes in the finals of the 1500-meter run at 4:45 p.m. (PT).
