USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force women's basketball dropped a 66-53 Mountain West contest to Utah State Wednesday night at Clune Arena. Freshmen Rileymarie Clarke and Cheyenne Wall led the Falcons in scoring with 15 points from Clarke and nine from Wall.
Guard Funda Nakkasoglu was a one-person show for Utah State (8-8, 3-2 MW), scoring 34 points. Nakkasoglu was 14 of 24 from the field. Guard Rachel Brewster added 10 points and five steals.
The game was close for three quarters, as the Falcons trailed by just two points, down 49-47, headed into the final quarter. But Air Force ran out of steam as the Aggies pulled away with a 17-6 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter.
Clarke posted a career-high in points for the Falcons, shooting 5 of 7 from the field and 3 of 4 from 3 point range. Wall was 4 of 5 from the field in 19 minutes off the bench, adding five rebounds and two blocked shots.
Junior Sydney Graham and sophomore Cortney Porter added eight points each. Graham also have five rebounds and three assists. Junior Myah Jackson was AFA's leading rebounder with six boards.
Air Force led early 15-13 after the first quarter. Utah State took a 31-30 lead into halftime by out-scoring the Falcons 18-15 in the second.
The Falcons hit a season-high seven 3 point baskets on the night.
Air Force returns to action Saturday, Jan. 16, hosting UNLV. Tip time, at Clune Arena, is 6 pm.
