U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. -- Air Force men's soccer fell to Utah Valley, 0-2, in their first home loss of the season, Friday night, at Cadet Soccer Stadium. The loss marks the Falcons' first loss in conference play this season; they drop to 9-4, 3-1 WAC. Utah Valley improves to 10-3, 3-1 WAC.
The Wolverine's leading scorer Paul Hoffmeister proved to be the most effective agent against the Falcons defense as he logged the only goals of the match.
"If you give good players a little bit of space, or slip up once, they will step up and take you," explained head coach Doug Hill. "We matched up pretty well but unfortunately [Hoffmeister] took advantage of two mistakes and finished like good players do."
Air Force put themselves in striking distance on several occasions as they managed to get behind the Wolverine defense and apply pressure to the goalkeeper. The Falcons took nine shots on the match with several close calls for the Wolverine goalkeeper.
"Our midfield play was good and we proved we could get in behind them," proclaimed Hill. "We had good opportunities and I thought we should have had one early off the cross but it didn't pan out that way tonight."
"The key is to learn from this one and get ready for Sunday's match; I think if we play Sunday how we played tonight with a few defensive adjustments, we can go out there and take them down." Hill continued optimistically, "I like the way our team is playing and I'm looking forward to seeing how our guys respond because resiliency is part of being a good team and I think we're a good team."
The Falcons continue conference action at home against CSU Bakersfield, Sunday, Oct. 16, at 1:30 p.m. MT. Fans can access the live stats and a live stream by going to GoAirForceFalcons.com and clicking the watch live and live stats links in the schedule drop down.
