USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force women's soccer won a 2-0 contest hosting Nevada (5-9, 2-5 MW) in Mountain West action Sunday afternoon at Cadet Soccer Stadium. The Falcons improved to 7-6-2, 3-4-1 MW on the season.
Sophomore Bre Robertson scored both goals for the Falcons, who earned their third conference win, the second most in the Mountain West era and one shy of the record.
Robertson scored her first goal in the 39th minute to give the Falcons the lead. Sophomore Kaitlyn Cook sent in a corner kick into the middle of the penalty box, finding Robertson, who redirected to the left side of the net for the goal.
The second goal came in the 81st minute, as Robertson successfully converted a penalty kick. She beat Nevada goalkeeper Kelsey Quintos, who guessed left on Robertson's shot, which went right. The PK was set up when senior Kristina O'Sullivan was taken down inside the penalty box.
The Falcon defense pitched its fourth shutout of the season. Sophomore Jennifer Hiddink posted six saves for her third shutout of the season.
Nevada held a 13-9 advantage in shots, but Air Force made the most of its opportunities.
"This is the fourth weekend that our team has had to bounce back from a Friday loss," Air Force head coach Larry Friend said. "Today, we showed a lot of grit and blue collar effort. I'm extremely proud of Bre Robertson. She's had to play out of position up top. She found the net twice today and has become a goal-scoring threat for us."
Friend went on to compliment several other Falcons on the effort today.
"I was also happy with our senior team captain Meredith Reisinger. She also had to play out of position due to injuries and helped create our second goal. Morgan Mavroudis and Haily Laub also contributed with strong efforts. It's a tough conference this season and we've got to big matches coming up next weekend as well."
Air Force returns to action Friday, Oct. 21, hosting San José State. Kickoff is 6 pm MT.
