USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force women's soccer defeated Boise State, 2-0, in Mountain West action Sunday afternoon at Cadet Soccer Stadium. The Falcons improved to 6-4-1, 2-2 MW on the season.
After a tough overtime loss to Utah State on Friday night, the Falcons responded with a spirited effort.
Air Force had goals from sophomores Hailey Laub and Bre Robertson, while the defense pitched it's fourth shutout of the season.
Despite being out-shot 15-8, the Falcons made theirs count. Laub scored the first goal in the 35th minute, with senior Alison Skidmore assisting on the score. Skidmore took possession of the ball near the left corner, spun around towards the end line and sent a pass into the middle. Laub got the ball as two Boise defenders went by. She converted on the one-on-one attempt, firing to the lower right side of the goal from 10 yards out.
The Falcons put the game out of reach on Robertson's goal, coming in the 61st minute. Sophomore Kaitlyn Cook sent a ball from midfield to O'Sullivan, who passed from the top of the box into the middle to Robertson, who completed the play with her first goal of the season.
Sophomore Jennifer Hiddink posted seven saves in the win. It was her second shutout of the season.
"Both teams expended a lot of energy on Friday, which made today a grinder of a game," Air Force head coach Larry Friend said. "We showed a lot of resiliency from a heartbreaking overtime loss Friday night. We had an outstanding performance from Jennifer Hiddink in goal today. In the second half, our possession was not at its best, but we did a tremendous job group-defending."
Air Force returns to action Friday, Oct. 7, at Wyoming and Sunday, Oct. 9 at Colorado State.
