
Falcons head to El Paso for three-day tournament

THIS WEEK: The Air Force golf team will travel to El Paso, Texas for the fifth annual Price's "Give 'Em Five" Invitational, Oct. 28-30, at the Butterfield Trail Golf Club. Teams will play 18 holes each day in the 54-hole, three-day tournament. Teams will begin teeing off at 8 a.m. MT each day. The Championship Course is par 72 and will play at 7,337 yards. A LOOK AT THE FIELD: The 11-team field includes Air Force, Army West Point, Marquette, New Mexico State, San Jose State, Seton Hall, Texas State, UTEP, UT-Rio Grande Valley, UT-San Antonio and Western New Mexico.
FALL HIGHLIGHTS: Air Force's fourth-place finish at the CSU Ram Masters is the team's best finish ever in that tournament. Air Force's sixth-place finish at the Mark Simpson is its best ever in that tournament. The 858 at the CSU Ram Masters is the 10th best 54-hole score in school history. Brenden Bone tied for second at the CSU Ram Masters with a career best 207 (-3). Choi posted back-to-back top 10 finishes at the CSU Ram Masters and Mark Simpson/CU Invite. He shot a career-best round of 65 in the first round of the CSU Ram Masters, Sept. 19. That round is the lowest by any Falcon this season and tied as the second-best round in school history. His 209 (-7) at the Mark Simpson/CU Invite is a career best score and place (T4th). His 209 score ties as the 15th best in school history
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Seniors Sunwoo Choi and Brenden Bone are leading the Falcons this season, both having a top-five finish in a fall tournament. Choi leads the team with a 72.67 stroke average while Bone has a 73.92. Freshman Joshua Wu, who has played nine of the 12 rounds this fall, is third with a 74.33.
LEADING THE WAY: George Koury is in his 15th season as the head coach at Air Force. Before taking over in 2002, Koury spent three seasons as an assistant coach. A 1993 Academy graduate, Koury competed on the golf team from 1990-93, serving as team captain and earning MVP honors as a senior. Koury is assisted by Tyler Goulding, a 2007 Academy graduate, who was a two-year team captain and three-time MVP. He is in his first season with the Falcons after spending three seasons as an assistant at the University of Southern California.
A LOOK BACK AT LAST WEEK: Air Force has been idle since placing 15th at the Paintbrush Invitational in Parker, Colo.
COMING UP: The Price's Give'Em 5 Invitational, Oct. 29-30, in El Paso, Texas is the final fall tournament. Air Force is now idle until the spring season begins.
