Air Force downs McPherson College in season opener

Air Force had three players in double figures to lead the Falcons past McPherson College, 88-71, Friday night in the season opener in Clune Arena at the Academy.
Air Force scored the first six points of the game and took a 10-2 lead early. The Falcons, leading 18-15 midway through the first half, broke the game open with a 19-2 run to take a 38-17 lead with 3:48 left in the half. Frank Toohey had seven straight points and Hayden Graham followed with five straight to key the run.
The Falcons were never seriously threatened in the second half and led by as many as 20 points, 63-43, midway through the half before emptying the benches. The Falcons shot 56.0 percent (28-50) from the field and never trailed in the game. All 16 players that dressed saw action. The Falcons had 20 assists and just six turnovers.
Graham led the Falcons with 16 points. Toohey added 14 points and Zach Kocur chipped in with 14 points and a team-high six rebounds. Jacob Van added eight points and Trevor Lyons and Caleb Morris each added seven points.
McPherson was led by Chris Crook, who had 18 points. Grant Raleigh added 12 points. The Bulldogs shot 42.9 percent from the field and had 12 3-pointers.
Air Force improves to 1-0 this season and has now won 10 straight season openers at home. McPherson College falls to 4-1. Air Force returns to action on Monday, Nov. 14, when it hosts Jacksonville at 7 p.m. in Clune Arena.
