
Falcons sweep Pioneers with 3-2 win in series finale

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - Kyle Haak and Erik Baskin scored third-period goals to lead Air Force to a 3-2 win over Sacred Heart in an Atlantic Hockey Conference game Saturday, Dec. 31, at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Conn. Coupled with a 3-1 win on Friday, the Falcons earned a series sweep over the Pioneers and have now won four straight games.
Air Force (11-6-3 overall and 8-3-1 AHC) struck first as sophomore defenseman Matt Koch scored from Brady Tomlak at 7:04 of the first period. SHU tied the game at 10:29 on Adam Durkee's first of the season.
Sacred Heart (6-12-2 overall and 4-10-0 AHC) scored the only goal of the second period and took a 2-1 lead on Vito Bavaro's power-play goal at 6:14.
The Falcons scored two goals in the first five minutes of the third period to regain the lead. Sophomore Kyle Haak, the team's leading scorer, lit the lamp at 2:09 of the third to tie the game at 2-2. Baskin then netted the eventual game-winner from Tyler Ledford and Evan Giesler at 4:34. The Falcons outshot the Pioneers, 13-5, in the third period and Shane Starrett stopped all five to seal the win.
Air Force outshot Sacred Heart in every period and had a 33-16 advantage in the game. The Falcons were 0-for-5 on the power play while SJHU was 1-for-4. Starrett made 14 saves for the Falcons while Nathan Perry made 30 for the home team.
Air Force returns to action Jan. 6-7 with a two-game road series against Mercyhurst in Erie, Pa.
