Falcon Lacrosse Opens Conference Slate with a Win

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force topped Furman, 14-4, in their first Southern Conference lacrosse matchup in program history on Saturday, Mar. 12, at Falcon Stadium. Chris Allen led the Falcons with four goals and one assist while Chris Walsch logged three goals. The Falcons' victory marks the fifth consecutive win since Feb. 20, improving their record to 5-2, 1-0 SoCon.
Air Force put points on the board first with Marcus Ward's goal from Austin Smith's assist in the first quarter. Furman would strike back with a goal from Zach Scott. Scott's goal would be the only Furman goal in the first half.
The Falcons extended the lead to 3-1 in the first quarter with goals from Nick Hruby and Allen. Grant Gould was credited with the assist to Hruby while Danny Brown tallied the assist to Allen.
The Falcons continued to fire on all cylinders in the second quarter, holding Furman scoreless while logging three unassisted goals from Walsch, Ward and Allen. Ward had a career high day, logging three points from two goals and an assist.
Air Force entered the locker room at halftime with the lead at 6-1. The Falcons held the first half advantage in ground balls (11-7), caused turnovers (2-0), shots (20-10) and shots on goal (10-5). Furman held the advantage in face offs won, winning five of nine.
The Falcons continued their first half roll into the third quarter, logging five goals to Furman's one, extending the lead to 11-2 at the end of the third period. Allen tallied his first hat trick of the season, ninth of his career, off Andrew Tien's assist in the third. Walsch also logged his second hat trick of the season, 12th of his career, on a goal with three seconds remaining in the third period off the Hruby assist.
Four Falcons tallied goals in the third; Walsch had two goals with assists from Allen and Hruby while Gould logged a goal from the Ward assist. Hruby also tallied a goal from Zach Payne's assist. Jonah Moore was the only Paladin to score in the third period.
The Falcons outscored the Paladins, 3-2, in the final period of the match. Smith tallied a goal from Gould's assist, Allen tallied his fourth goal from Sheamus Larkin's assist and Chuck Goldstein made his first career goal off of Payne's assist.
The Falcons ended the game with the advantage in shots (31-29), ground balls (26-20) and saves (12-6). The Falcons were perfect in clears on the day going 15-15 while Furman won 12 of 21 face offs.
