Air Force Drops Series Opener to Omaha

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force baseball dropped a 12-3 non-conference game to Omaha (7-6) on Tuesday afternoon at Falcon Field. The loss dropped the Falcons to 7-3 on the season.
An eight-run second inning keyed Omaha's win. The Mavericks had 18 hits on the day.
The Falcons had six hits by six different players. Freshman Nic Ready, sophomore Tyler Zabojnik and junior Shaun Mize hit doubles for AFA.
Sophomore Nick Bianacalana (1-1) pitched five innings in the start for the Falcons. Biancalana stuck out a career-high six batters in the loss. Sophomore Michael Rieker and freshmen Sam Rexroad and Matt Hargreaves closed out the game in relief.
Omaha had eight players with multi-hit games. Leadoff hitter Alex Schultz went 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs and four RBIs. Starting pitcher Cal Hehnke (1-0) pitched six innings, allowing three runs, while striking out three.
After the Mavericks plated eight in the top of the second, the Falcons scored three in the bottom of the inning. Omaha added a run in the fourth and three in the seventh.
Game two of the two-game series is tomorrow. First pitch is 2 p.m.
