Air Force Drops Series-Opener at Fresno State

Air Force baseball dropped the series-opener at Fresno State, 14-1, Friday night at Beiden Field in Fresno, Calif. The Falcons dropped to 13-6, 4-2 MW.
A 12-run third inning by the Bulldogs ultimately decided the game. Fresno State (18-8, 7-3 MW) hit three home runs in the inning, including a pair of grand slams.
Junior designated hitter Bradley Haslam led the Falcons with two hits and an RBI. Freshman Nic Ready added a base hit. Junior Adam Groesbeck scored Air Force's run.
The Falcons scored a run in the first inning on an RBI-single by Haslam. Fresno State scored a run in the bottom-half of the inning to tie the game up.
Fresno State erupted in the third and added a run in the seventh.
The Bulldogs had 17 hits. Second baseman Scott Silva went 4-for-6 with a home run and six RBIs. Starting pitcher Ricky Tyler Thomas (4-2) pitched seven innings for the win.
Senior Trent Monaghan (3-1) took the loss in the start for the Falcons. Monaghan pitched 2.2 innings, striking out five. Sophomore Michael Rieker, sophomore Lance Fry and freshman Ethan Nichols closed out the game in relief. Rieker did not allow a run in 2.1 innings pitched and Nichols pitched a scoreless eighth inning in his collegiate debut.
Game two of the three-game series is tomorrow. First pitch is 6 pm PT.
