Griffin Jax Named To Golden Spikes Watch List

Air Force pitcher Griffin Jax was one of 60 players named to the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award midseason watch list, announced today by USA Baseball. The Golden Spikes Award goes to the top amateur baseball player in the country.
Jax, a junior righthander from Greenwood Village, Colo., currently leads the Mountain West with a 1.59 earned run average and is second in wins (6) and strikeouts (60). Jax is currently 6-2 on the season and ranks third in the conference with 62.1 innings pitched. In nine starts so far this season, Jax has allowed two-or-fewer runs in eight starts. Earlier this season, he went 24.1 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run.
Jax was a 12th round draft pick by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2013 MLB Draft out of Cherry Creek High School. He was also named the Gatorade 2013 Colorado High School Baseball Player of the Year at Cherry Creek.
Jax was one of two players from the Mountain West on the list, joining infielder Chris DeVito of New Mexico.
Sponsored by Major League Baseball and presented in partnership with the Rod Dedeaux Foundation, the 39th Golden Spikes Award will be presented on June 30 in Los Angeles. ESPN will once again serve as the programming sponsor for the Golden Spikes Award.
