Five Falcons Claim Semifinal Wins at NCBA Championships

SEATTLE, Wash. – The Air Force boxing team picked up five victories during the semifinal round of action at the National Collegiate Boxing Association (NCBA) Championships on Friday, April 8, in Seattle. The men tallied a 5-2 record, while the women added a 1-1 mark for a combined 6-3 record.
Junior Adam Sumait kicked off the night for the Falcons, as he earned a split decision over Washington's Devin Bell at 119 pounds. Junior Johnny Wells posted a unanimous decision over Nevada's Zach Smith in the 156-pound bout, before the Falcons closed out the night with victories in three of the final four bouts. Senior Gytenis Borusas unanimously defeated Xavier's Tamer Boulos at 175 pounds, while sophomore Den Tati-Mackaya decisioned Lock Haven's Zaire Ali at 195 pounds and senior Yohance Salimu received the judges' decision in his heavy weight bout with Washington's Edgar Cortes.
Junior Landon Tomcho dropped a split decision to Army's Vonn Grant in the 139-pound semifinal, while senior Sean Richards lost his 185-pound bout when the referee stopped their bout in the opening round.
The women split their semifinal day. Heather Parcasio defeated Army's Mikaila Wiitanen at 125 pounds, while Sarenna Ortiz dropped a referee-stopped-contest to Penn State's Taylor Varner at 139 pounds.
The five semifinal winners, plus senior Mateus Arcano, who has had a bye through the first two rounds, return to the ring on Saturday, April 9, for the finals of the NCBA Championships.
