Air Force Drops Thursday Game To New Mexico

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force baseball dropped an 23-2 contest to New Mexico in Mountain West action Thursday afternoon at Falcon Field. The Falcons dropped to 27-24, 11-17 MW.
New Mexico (34-20, 19-9 MW) racked up 20 hits, nine for extra bases. Second baseman Jared Holley went 3-for-6 with seven RBIs. Catcher Andrew Pratt also homered.
Air Force had 10 hits in the game. Right fielder Spencer Draws went 2-for-3 with two doubles and first baseman Russell Williams went 2-for-4 with a home run. Jordan Hanlin had his first hit of the season and Jacob Booker notched his first-career hit for the Falcons.
Freshman Ethan Nichols (0-3) took the loss in the start. Nichols pitched four innings. Steven Plaskett, Lance Fry, Austin McDaniel and Jake Gilbert pitched in relief.
New Mexico starting pitcher Colton Thomson (6-3) pitched six innings for the win. Jacob Nelson pitched three innings in relief for the save.
After a 46 minute lightning delay after one inning of play, New Mexico scored five runs in the second inning to go ahead. The Lobos built the lead to 21-0, highlighted by a 10-run sixth inning.
The Falcons got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Williams hit a solo home run to right-center for the first run and left fielder Tyler Jones hit an RBI single to score third baseman Bradley Haslam.
Game two of the three-game series with New Mexico is tomorrow. First pitch will be 1 pm tomorrow.
