Griffin Jax Earns MW Pitcher of the Week Honors

Griffin Jax of Air Force baseball was named Mountain West Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played May 15-22, announced today by the conference office. Jax picked up his third MW honor this season and the fourth of his career.
The junior righthander tossed a complete game shutout in Air Force's 1-0 win over New Mexico on Friday, May 20. The Greenwood Village, Colo., native scattered eight hits and struck out nine, blanking the 10th ranked hitting team in the nation. It was Jax's second shutout of the season and sixth complete game. Jax extended his streak of not allowing an earned run to 23 innings, spanning his last three starts.
Jax improved to 9-2 on the season with the win. His nine wins ranks second all-time at Air Force. The junior's current 1.74 earned run average is ahead of the school record of 2.15, set by Tom Grinstead in 1979.
Joining Jax in weekly conference honors is Cooper Esmay of UNLV, who earned MW Player of the Week.
Air Force will return to action at the 2016 Mountain West Championship, held May 25-29, at Santa Ana Star Field in Albuquerque, N.M. The Falcons open play against UNLV on Wednesday, May 25.
