
Two Air Force Alums Conclude Action at Olympic Trials

EUGENE, Ore. – Two graduates of the Air Force women’s track and field program wrapped up competition at the 2016 USATF Olympic Trials this evening (July 1) at Historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
With a throw of 172’11”, Paige Blackburn placed 21st in the qualifying round of the discus throw. The 2012 Academy graduate opened competition with a throw of 166’5” and fouled her second attempt, before concluding the three-throw qualifier with her best of the day (172’11”).
On the track, Annette (Eichenberger) Melcher, a 2014 Academy graduate who was fighting a foot injury during today’s first-round race, finished eighth in her heat of the 800-meter run (38th overall) with a time of 2:15.91.
Air Force alumni return to action tomorrow (July 2), when a trio of Academy pole vaulters – Dylan Bell (Class of 2016), Cale Simmons (Class of 2012) and Joey Uhle (Class of 2015) – compete in the qualifying round of their signature event. The pole vault will get underway at 10:30 a.m. (PDT).
