Junior tennis players Nicholas Carpenter and Lucas Fumagalli each received 2016 Intercollegiate Tennis Association academic honors this week. More than 4,200 scholar-athletes were recognized across all divisions.
To earn ITA scholar-athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of 3.5 or better and be enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
Carpenter has a 3.95 cumulative grade point average and is major in Aeronautical engineering. Fumagalli is a mechanical engineering major and has a 3.81 GPA. Fumagalli was named third-team Academic All-American for the second straight year earlier this season. The pair were each named to the Mountain West all-academic team as well.
