Air Force Opens at Home...
The Falcons open up their home slate this weekend, at Cadet Soccer Stadium, USAFA, Colo. Air Force will kick off against Bryant, Friday, Sept. 9, at 7:00 p.m., for a "Pack the House" event hosted by the Air Force soccer and the USAFA Athletic Department. Free food will be provided to the Cadet Wing and hats will be given out to the team who has the most percentage of attendance. On Sunday, Sept. 11, the Falcons will host UC Riverside at 1:00 p.m.
The Series...
Friday's match up with Bryant will mark the first time the Falcons and Bulldogs take the pitch as opponents. Air Force is 1-1 all-time against UC Riverside. They played their first match at the Fila Cup in Los Angeles, Calif., the Falcons won, 1-0. In their last match in 2010, the Highlanders bested Air Force, 1-0, in Riverside, Calif.
Looking at Air Force...
Air Force is tied for second in the conference in shutouts (1). Falcon goalkeepers have placed Air Force at fifth in the conference in goals against average (1.60) and saves (14), and sixth in goals allowed (5). Junior goalkeeper John Wendt has logged 12 saves in 192 minutes in the box; he has .706 save percentage and one assist. Senior goalkeeper Jake Schenk logged a shutout against Cal Poly. Schenk has two saves for a perfect save percentage in 90 minutes of action in goal.
Sophomore midfielder Tucker Bone is tied for fifth in conference in shots with seven in three games played, averaging 2.33 shots per game. Bone leads the Falcons in shots and is in a three-way tie for the most points on the team (2). Abinadi Samayoa and Tucker Axhoj logged a goal apiece. Sophomore forward Austin Dewing has taken five shots and tallied an assist for the second most shots and points on the team.
As it stands, Air Force is currently seventh in the WAC based on current overall records.
