Air Force continues home stand with three matches

This week: Air Force continues a six-match home swing to open the spring season this week with three matches. The Falcons host Montana State Saturday, Jan. 28, at 11 a.m. and UMKC at 5 p.m. that day. The home stand closes with a match against Grand Canyon Sunday at 11 a.m. All three matches will be video streamed live on goairforcefalcons.com. There will also be free food and drinks at the UMKC and Grand Canyon matches.
Home stand: Air Force plays its first six matches at home this spring. Following a match at Michigan State Feb. 17 and vs. Army West Point in East Lansing, Mich., Feb. 19, the team returns home for four more matches Feb. 24-25.
Last week: Air Force went 2-1 in a three-match home stand last week. The Falcons beat Northern Colorado, 6-1, Jan. 20 and CSU-Pueblo, 7-0, Jan. 21. Abilene Christian defeated Air Force, 4-3, Saturday evening.
Senior Lucas Fumagalli led the team, posting a 3-0 mark at No. 1 singles. He won his first two matches in straight sets and battled back against Abilene Christian after dropping the first set to win a three-setter, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Sophomore Luke Sanderson also posted a 3-0 mark in singles. He was 2-0 at No. 4 and 1-0 at No. 2, winning all three matches in straight sets. Freshman Mack Galvin was also 3-0 in singles, posting a 2-0 mark at No. 6 and a 1-0 mark at No. 4. He won all three matches in straight sets.
Fall numbers: Freshmen David Mottice and Mack Galvin, along with junior Max Olson, tied for the team lead with 10 singles wins in fall competition. Mottice and Olson were 10-5 in tournament play, while Galvin was 10-6. Senior Lucas Fumagalli posted a 9-6 mark. Mottice and sophomore Isaac Perez led the way in doubles, teaming up for a 9-5 mark.
Head Coach Dan Oosterhous: Dan Oosterhous is in his eighth season as the men's tennis coach at the Air Force Academy after being named the program's 12th head coach October 1, 2009. Oosterhous, a 1993 graduate of the Academy, replaced legendary head coach Rich Gugat, who retired after 36 years at the helm of the men's tennis program. Oosterhous, one of the best tennis players in program history, has a 73-95 career record. A native of Texarkana, Texas, He is a senior pilot with over 3,100 hours in the C-5, C-21, T-38, and T-37. He has three children, Emma (19), Anna (17) and Andrew (15).
