Falcons Split Opening Day of WAC Main Event

SEATTLE, Wash. – The Air Force boxing team split the first day of action at the WAC Main Event in Seattle. Senior Landon Tomcho and junior Den Tati-Mackaya claimed victories for the Falcons on Friday (Jan. 27) night at the Washington Athletic Club, as Air Force posted a 2-2 overall record.
Tomcho earned a split-decision victory over Iowa State's Josue Avila in a 139-pound contest, while Tati-Mackaya claimed a 2-1 vote over Washington's Edgar Cortes in the 195-pound bout.
Freshman Levi Rate and senior Johnny Wells also competed at the WAC on Friday, falling to boxers from host Washington. Rate dropped a unanimous decision to Navid Shaiwayana in a 139-pound bout, while Wells was retired from his 165-pound contest with Jasper Bourgette in the second round.
