Outfielder Tyler Jones of Air Force baseball was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association 2017 Preseason All-America Baseball Team, announced today by the NCBWA. Jones, a senior left fielder, earned third-team honors.
This is Jones' third preseason All-America honor as he was named to the Collegiate Baseball News Preseason All-American Second-Team and College Sports Madness Preseason Third-Team as well. He was the lone Mountain West player recognized.
A native of Coppell, Texas, Jones is coming off a junior season, where he earned Louisville Slugger Third-Team All-America honors. Jones led the Mountain West with 19 home runs, earning First-Team All-MW honors. In addition, he batted .364 with 64 RBIs. His 19 home runs ranked eighth in the nation and is the third-most in school history and his 64 RBIs was fifth at Air Force. Jones also led the Mountain West with 16 hit-by-pitches.
Air Force is slated to return eight starters in the lineup off of last year's 30-27 team. The Falcons batted .325 as a team, which ranked third in the nation.
