
Falcons Wrap up First Day of Tyson Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Air Force track and field team registered one first-place finish and made one addition to the Academy record book during the first day of competition at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., this afternoon (Feb. 10). Overall, the Falcons accounted for 10 top-10 finishes, including five top-five marks.
Junior Zac Petrie and sophomore Gordon Kowalkowski posted a 1-2 Air Force finish in the 800-meter run, as they clocked respective times of 1:52.53 and 1:53.02 to lead the 18-runner open section. The Falcons claimed a third top-10 finish in that event, as sophomore John Quinn finished 10th in a time of 1:54.17. The men accounted for a runner-up finish from junior Conner Wilburn in the open mile (career-best 4:14.61), while senior Jason Engel clocked a personal-best time of 4:09.51 to place fourth in the mile's invitational section.
Senior Reed McGuire debuted in 10th on the program's all-time weight throw standings, as he recorded a career-best throw of 59'8½" to finish sixth. McGuire was one of two Falcons to earn top-10 finishes in that event, as classmate Malachi Sparling finished third with a distance of 61'5¾".
Senior Kyle Pater finished eighth in the invitational section of the pole vault (17'0¾"), while freshman Connor Stevens tied for sixth in the open section (16'0¾").
Back on the track, junior Jamiel Trimble finished 12th in the 60-meter hurdles (7.97) and 14th in the 400-meter run (47.86), while junior Tyler Koss (17th at 400 meters, 48.10) and senior Zach Johnson (18th at 60 meters (6.82) added top-20 finishes.
The Falcons conclude action at the Tyson Invitational tomorrow (Feb. 11), while other members of the team compete at the Adams State Qualifier in Alamosa, Colo., and the Husky Classic in Seattle.
