SEATTLE, Wash. – The Air Force track and field team concluded action at the Husky Classic this afternoon (Feb. 11), with three strong performances in the mile. Junior Carina Gillespie broke her own Class Record, while senior Matt Dorsey picked up a top-12 finish.
Gillespie improved her own Junior Class Record in the mile, as she clocked a time of 4:44.64 to finish eighth in her section and 21st in the full 84-runner field. Gillespie's time is the second-fastest in Air Force history – trailing only the program-best time of 4:44.17 (adjusted for altitude) that she set during her sophomore year.
Dorsey registered a time of 4:01.40 to finish fourth in his section and 12th in the overall field of 77. His time – a season high by nearly seven seconds – is less than a second off of his career best. Sophomore Noah Riley also competed at the mile, finishing 10th in his second his section (52nd overall) with a time of 4:09.94 – a time just shy of his personal best.
The Falcons, who are still competing at the Adams State Qualifier this afternoon, return to the Academy next weekend, when they host the Air Force Collegiate Open on Friday, Feb. 17. The meet, the squad's final home meet of the indoor season, is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m. (MT).
