// Box Score in PDF LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Air Force women's basketball dropped a 52-38 contest at UNLV (19-8, 10-5 MW) in Mountain West action Wednesday night at Cox Pavilion. Junior Cortney Porter set a new school steals record for the Falcons. The Falcons struggled early on against the Lady Rebels pressure defense, falling behind 15-8 after the first quarter and 24-11 at halftime. The Rebels held a 36-26 advantage in rebounding and were able to get to the free throw line for 20 attempts compared to just five for the Falcons.Air Force had one of its best days defensively. The 52 points by UNLV was the second-fewest the Falcons have allowed and the fewest since holding Fairleigh Dickinson to 48 back on Nov. 26 last year.Junior Dee Bennett led the Falcons with 14 points and nine rebounds. Porter added six points, four assists and two steals. With her two steals, Porter became Air Force's all-time leader in career steals in the Div. I era with 158, surpassing Raimee Beck."Dee and Cortney played well for us tonight," Air Force head coach Chris Gobrecht said. "We just needed some more shots to fall."Freshmen Kailin Davis and Mariah Forde and sophomore Venessannah Itugbu added five points each. Itugbu and junior Erika Chapman added four rebounds each.Dakota Gonzalez led UNLV with 17 points. Brooke Johnson added 14 points. After the slow start, the Falcons were able to get its offense going in the second-half. Air Force scored 11 points in the third quarter and 16 in the fourth. "Defensively, I thought we did a good job on them," Gobrecht said. "Some of our shooters we rely on for scoring had off nights. If we can get some buckets to fall, we have a change to get some wins."Air Force returns to action Saturday, Feb. 25, hosting Utah State. Tip-off, at Clune Arena, is 2 pm MT.
