
Air Force Drops Series-Opener At Nevada

Air Force baseball (9-12, 1-9) lost the series opener at Nevada (6-16, 3-7 MW), 10-2, in a Mountain West game Friday afternoon at Peccole Park. Russell Williams led the Falcons with a pair of doubles.
A pair of big innings early Nevada was the difference. The Wolf Pack scored four runs in the second and third innings to jump ahead 9-1. A grand slam by Keaton Smith in the third highlighted the big innings for Nevada.
Jacob DeVries (1-2) took the loss in the start for the Falcons. DeVries pitched two innings, striking out two. Evan Floyd, Jake Gilbert, Shawn Kelley, Will Jones and Josh Leaser pitched in relief. Leaser made his collegiate debut for Air Force.
The Falcons had nine hits on the day, five going for doubles. Williams went 2-for-3 with a pair for doubles to lead the way. Adam Groesbeck and Tyler Zabojnik added RBI-doubles. Bradley Haslam extended his hitting streak to 25 games, hitting a double and scoring a run.
Nevada had 10 hits. Smith went 3-for-3 with five RBIs. Trevor Charpie (1-3) pitched six innings in the start for the win. Austin Dick pitched the following three innings for the save.
The Wolf Pack scored a run in the first and had the big innings in the second and third. The Falcons scored its runs in the third and fourth innings. Haslam doubled and came around to score on a double by Tyler Zabojnik for the run in the third. Groesbeck doubled-in Williams in the fourth. Nevada added a run in the seventh.
Game two of the three-game series is tomorrow. First pitch is 2 pm PT.
