Air Force baseball (10-12, 2-9) won at Nevada (6-17, 3-8 MW), 7-3, in a Mountain West game Saturday afternoon at Peccole Park. Senior Bradley Haslam extended his hitting streak to 26 games by going 4-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs.
In addition to the clutch hitting from Haslam, Air Force got a standout performance on the mound from the left-handed duo of sophomore Ethan Nichols and junior Ryan Holloway. Nichols (2-1) held the Wolf Pack to two runs in five innings pitched in the start, picking up the Falcons' first MW road win of the season. Holloway continued his dominance, allowing just one run over the final four innings for the save.
Trailing 2-1, the Falcons took the lead with three runs in the sixth inning. Up 5-2, the Haslam clubbed a three-run homer in the eighth inning to give the Falcons some cushion.
Air Force had 13 hits on the day. Senior Adam Groesbeck and sophomore Drew Wiss had two hits each. Wiss hit the game-tying RBI single and Groesbeck knocked in the go-ahead run with a base hit RBI.
Nevada had 10 hits. Right fielder Mike Echavia went 2-for-5 with a home run to lead the Wolf Pack. Mark Nowaczewski (1-3) took the loss in the start, allowing three runs in 5.2 innings pitched.
"We had some big hits from Drew Wiss and Adam Groesbeck in the sixth and Bradley Haslam gave us some breathing room with his shot in the eighth," Air Force head coach Mike Kazlausky said. "Ethan Nichols and Ryan Holloway pitched a great combined effort on the mound for us. We've fought our way back to put ourselves in a position to take this series with a win tomorrow."
Air Force and Nevada play the rubber match of the three-game series tomorrow. First pitch is 1 pm PT.
