
Air Force Drops 9-8 Contest Sunday at Nevada

Air Force baseball (10-13, 2-10) lost at Nevada (7-17, 4-8 MW), 9-8, in a Mountain West game Sunday afternoon at Peccole Park in Reno, Nev. Senior Bradley Haslam extended his hitting streak to 27 games by going 3-for-5.
Air Force was unable to hold a 6-2 lead as Nevada posted a six-run fifth inning to go ahead 8-6. The Falcons had the game-tying run at second and game-winning run at first base in the ninth, but Wolf Pack reliever Evan McMahan induced a game-ending double play to close out the game.
The Falcons out-hit Nevada 16-11 on the day. Joining Haslam with three hits was sophomore Drew Wiss, who went 3-for-4 with a double. Senior Russell Williams added two hits, including a home run. Sophomore Nic Ready and junior Tyler Zabojnik added two hits each with Zabojnik hitting a pair of doubles.
Reliver Jake Gilbert (1-1) took the loss. Starting pitcher Matt Hargreaves worked 4.2 innings for Air Force, striking out four. Junior Tucker Jacobs and freshman Jeff Gerlica also pitched in relief.
Nevada starting pither Riley Ohl (2-1) pitched six innings, allowing seven runs in the win. McMahan picked up the save.
Leadoff hitter Jordan Pierce led the Wolf Pack with three hits, a home run and five RBIs. Pierce's grand slam capped Nevada's big fifth inning.
Air Force led 4-0 after a run in the third and three in the fourth. Nevada scored two in the bottom of the fourth before the Falcons scored two in the top of the fifth to go up 6-2. The Wolf Pack scored the six runs in the bottom of the fifth.
The Falcons scored a run in the sixth before Nevada plated a run in the eighth. Air Force scored a run in the ninth and had runners on first and second with one out before the game-ending double play.
Air Force returns to action Tuesday, March 28, at Omaha.
