
Three Record Book Additions Highlight Distance Carnival

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Three 5000-meter runners added their names to the Academy record book this afternoon, as the Air Force distance squad opened their outdoor season at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival on Friday, March 31.
Senior Kyle Eller and junior Andrew Johnston debuted in the top-six of the Academy's all-time standings, while clocking top-five finishes in the 5000-meter run. Finishing with a time of 13:56.16, Eller deleted more than 20 seconds off of his previous best time to finish third out of 207 total runners in that event. Johnston, who clocked a time of 13:59.00 to finish fifth overall, subtracted more than 23 seconds off of his prior time. With those times, Eller and Johnston bettered the previous Meet Record and debuted in fifth and sixth, respectively, on the Academy's all-time list.
Junior Katie Burnham also impacted the Academy record book in the 5000-meter run, as she registered the ninth-fastest time in program history during her collegiate debut at that distance. With a time of 17:08.23, Burnham finished fourth in her section of 28 and 34th in the overall field of 145.
Four additional members of the men's team also competed in the 5000-meter run today at Cox Stadium. Sophomore Mickey Davey clocked a time of 14:22.75 in his first outdoor 5000-meter event to finish third in a section that included classmates Trevor Siniscalchi (14:27.24, sixth) and Nathan Thomas (14:36.81, 16th). Davey finished 32nd in the overall field of 207, while Siniscalchi and Thomas finished 38th and 51st, respectively. Freshman Marshall Wheeler made rounded out the men's 5000-meter lineup with an event debut time of 14:48.81 to finish fifth in his section and 66th overall.
A pair of Falcons made their collegiate 10,000-meter debuts this morning at SF State. Junior Anthony Bucci clocked a time of 30:31.90 to win his section and finish 19th in the full 96-runner field, while sophomore Nikolai Rhodes registered a time of 30:53.40 to finish 22nd in his section and 29th overall.
The Air Force distance runners continue action later tonight, when four runners compete under the lights of Cobb Field at the Stanford Invitational.
