Air Force falls to San Diego State

San Diego State defeated Air Force, 4-2, Friday afternoon in a Mountain West men's tennis match at the Cadet Gymnasium Outdoor Tennis Courts at the Academy. The teams entered the match tied for sixth in the conference standings.
The Falcons opened the match by winning the doubles point. The Aztecs won the first match with Sander Gjoels and Nicholas Mitchell beating Isaac Perez and Luke Sanderson, 6-3, at No. 2. Lucas Fumagalli and Mack Galvin defeated Marko Goles-Babic and David Hough, 7-6, at No. 3. Max Olson and Tadhg Collins secured the point for Air Force in a tie-breaker, 7-6, over Milen Ianakiev and Santiago Cevallos.
San Diego State evened the match at No. 2 singles with Ianakiev defeating Perez, 6-3, 6-3. Gjoels defeated Fumagalli, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 singles to give SDSU a 2-1 lead. Sanderson tied the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles over Joel Popov. The Aztecs took the lead again when Cevallos beat Galvin, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4 singles. San Diego State won it with a 7-5, 7-6 win at No. 1 singles by Goles-Babic over Olson. The No. 6 singles match between Collins and Hough didn't finish. Collins won the first set, 7-6, and trailed 6-5 in the second when the match was stopped.
Air Force falls to 7-14 overall and 1-4 in conference play. The Aztecs improve to 6-14 and 2-3 in Mountain West play. The Falcons return to action Sunday, April 16, vs. UNLV at Noon.
