Air Force heads to Mountain West Championships

This week: Air Force, seeded seventh, takes on second-seeded Fresno State in the quarterfinals of the 2017 Mountain West Men's Tennis Championship Friday, April 28, at Noon MT in the Appleton Tennis Center in Boise, Idaho. If Air Force wins, it will play the winner of #3 UNLV vs. #6 Nevada on Saturday, April 29, at 2 p.m. in the semifinals. The championship is Sunday, April 30, at 1:30 p.m.

Last week: Air Force split a pair of home matches. The Falcons beat Nebraska-Omaha, 7-0, April 21. New Mexico beat Air Force, 4-1, April 22. Senior Lucas Fumagalli picked up the team's lone point vs. New Mexico with a 7-6, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles over Dominic West on Senior Day.
Freshman Mack Galvin leads the way: Freshman Mack Galvin leads the Falcons with a 26-14 overall record in singles. Galvin is 16-8 this spring in duals.
Air Force tennis a family affair for Fumagalli siblings: Senior Lucas Fumagalli's younger sister, TJ, is a freshman on the Air Force women's team. Lucas is the team captain and a two-time third-team CoSIDA Academic All-American. He has a 3.85 GPA in mechanical engineering. TJ has set a trio of records for the women's program, including most singles wins in a season with 38. She is 27-0 this spring.
Head Coach Dan Oosterhous: Dan Oosterhous is in his eighth season as the men's tennis coach at the Air Force Academy after being named the program's 12th head coach October 1, 2009. Oosterhous, a 1993 graduate of the Academy, replaced legendary head coach Rich Gugat, who retired after 36 years at the helm of the men's tennis program. Oosterhous, one of the best tennis players in program history, has a 79-110 career record. A native of Texarkana, Texas, He is a senior pilot with over 3,100 hours in the C-5, C-21, T-38, and T-37. He has three children, Emma (19), Anna (17) and Andrew (15).
