
Calvin Berstler, Tyler Berson Kick Off MW Championships

LOGAN, Utah -- Juniors Calvin Berstler and Tyler Berson kicked off the 2017 Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships this afternoon (May 10), as the conference meet got underway at Ralph Maughan Track Stadium on the campus of Utah State University.
After the initial five events of the decathlon, Berstler is in fourth with 3,541 points and Berson is in sixth with 3,436 points.
Berstler opened the day with a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter dash (11.36), before posting a personal-best distance of 21'3" in the long jump (seventh) and a season-best throw of 37'8" in the shot put (fifth). He registered his best event finish of the day in the high jump, with a third-place clearance of 6'4¼", and closed out the opening day of action with a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash (51.44).
Berson capped the opening day of action with a first-place -- and season-best -- time of 49.93 in the 400-meter dash. He also registered a personal-best distance of 21'3½" in the long jump (sixth), while placing fifth in the 100-meter dash (11.40) and adding sixth-place marks in the shot put (35'3") and high jump (5'10½").
Berstler and Berson wrap up the decathlon tomorrow (May 11), with the final five events of the decathlon at 2:00 p.m. (MT). The individual events also kick off tomorrow night, as the 10,000-meter run is slated to begin at 6:15 p.m.
