Falcons Wrap up Action at USATF Championships

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Rising senior Jamiel Trimble represented the Air Force track and field team during the third day of competition at the USATF Outdoor Championships. Competing in the 200-meter dash, he was one of three athletes with ties to the Academy program to compete on the national stage at Hornet Stadium on Saturday, June 24.
Clocking a wind-impeded time of 20.82, Trimble finished 17th out of 30 runners during the first round of competition in the 200-meter dash. Running in the only heat to be impacted by the wind (-2.5 m/s), Trimble finished third in his heat – and missed an at-large spot into the semifinals by just 0.02 seconds.
The Falcons' track and field program was also represented by two Academy graduates in the pole vault.
Capt Cale Simmons, a 2013 USAFA graduate and member of the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team, paced the pair with a 12th-place clearance of 17'8½". He cleared that height – the opening bar of the meet – on his third attempt, before passing the 18'0½" bar. Following three attempts at 18'4½", Simmons exited the competition in 12th. Kyle Pater, a 2017 Academy graduate who was commissioned as a second lieutenant in May, was unable to better the 17'8½" bar during his three attempts and was one of six vaulters to go out on the opening height.
