USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force women's soccer kicked off Parent's Weekend by defeating McNeese, 1-0, Friday night at Cadet Soccer Stadium. Brooke Rittmann scored the game-winner in the 34th minute to lift the Falcons to their second-straight win.
Freshman Emma Nelson sent a pass from midfield to Rittmann down the left side. Rittmann curled a shot up and over McNeese goalkeeper Emma Roccaforte to find the back of the net.
The Falcons held off the Cowgirls the rest of the way for the win.
"I'm very happy with the win on parents weekend," Air Force head coach Larry Friend said. "It's an emotional time, especially for our freshmen. The team did a good job of removing the distractions and focusing on the game. It was an outstanding shot by Brooke Rittmann off an assist by Emma Nelson. Jennifer Hiddink was strong in goal for us again. Angela Karamanos gave us a strong presence in the midfield."
Air Force held advantages across the board, highlighted by a 19-10 lead in shots attempted. The Falcons also had a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Rittmann led the Falcons with five shots, three on goal. Five other players had multiple shot attempts for Air Force.
Hiddink recorded four saves in the shutout win.
I was impressed by McNeese head coach Drew Fitzgerald," Friend said. "He is a class act and so are the players and people in his program. I wish them all the best for the rest of the season and hope their city recovers from the recent hurricane."
Air Force is off the rest of the weekend. The Falcons return to action next Friday, Sept. 8, hosting Army West Point.
