Falcons Fall to Conference Leading Boise State, 1-0

Air Force tied Boise State in shots, 11-11
USAFA, Colo. – The Air Force Academy women's soccer team battled tight, but ultimately fell to Mountain West Conference leading Boise State University, 1-0, Friday evening, Oct. 12, at Cadet Soccer Stadium. The Falcons (1-6-6, 0-4-3) kept pace with the high powered Bronco (12-2-1, 6-0-1) offense, as they tied in shots, 11-11.
Boise State held the slight edge in shots on goal, 7-5, but the difference ultimately came on a missed penalty kick from Air Force, which Boise State turned into a goal right after on a breakaway. Senior forward Kaitlyn Cook was the leader offensively, attempting three shots, two on net.
Defensively, senior goalie Jennifer Hiddink made seven saves on the night, to up her league-leading total to 78 on the season. She also moved into fifth place in Mountain West history is career saves with 323.
The Broncos came out firing over the first 20 minutes, as Hiddink was forced to make a trio of nice saves. After the initial onslaught, things settled down as neither side registered a shot on frame the rest of the first half, and the match went to the locker rooms scoreless.
About 10 minutes into the second half, Air Force got a break as, on a shot attempt, the ball grazed the hand of defender in the box, setting up a penalty kick. Freshman Keelyn Osoba stepped up to take the attempt, and her shot went just high, and banged off the crossbar, which was quickly cleared out, putting Boise on the counter attack.
The Broncos' top offense in the country then went to work, as they got a two players on a breakaway. On a cross into the box, the top goal scorer in the country, Raimee Sherle, was able to get a foot on the ball, and tucked it in the bottom left corner for the goal.
Following the goal, Air Force went to work looking for the equalizer The Falcons were able to match Boise State shot-for-shot down the stretch, but Boise made each save necessary. In the end, the match ran down to Air Force's fourth one goal defeat in conference play this season.
The Falcons will return to the field, Sunday, Oct. 14, for Senior Day against Utah State. Kickoff against the Aggies is set for noon.
