The 15th-ranked Air Force men’s soccer team improves to 12-2 on the season with a 5-1 mark in league play
The Falcons wasted no time applying their suffocating defense on the Huskies, matching with a fast-paced and relentless style of offense. In the 13th minute, the 2018 MAC Hermann watch list player Tucker Bone lit the scoreboard up with a headed in goal via Austin Guerrero's impressive cross.
Air Force continued to dominate the offensive possession, notching its second goal in the 37th minute when Danny Han fed Aaron Uribe the ball in the box- Uribe finished with a flick over the keeper's head to improve the lead to two-nil.
With a modest lead in the second half, Air Force's reserve players began trickling onto the pitch. Freshman Tristan Trager took the opportunity to shine as he sent a cross-ball to team-captain Austin Dewing who fired a rocket straight past the Huskies' keeper, lifting the Falcons to a comfortable three-nil lead. Dewing has eight goals this season.
In the 66th minute, with nearly all the reserves on the pitch, a Colorado product by the name of Dylan Stanley sent a deadly-accurate pass to Bone who then sent a laser beam past the keeper, snapping the back of the net for his second goal of the night. Bone leads the squad with nine goals this season.
At the final whistle, Air Force's dominance was reflected on the box score as the Falcons took more than twice as many shots as the Huskies, 19-9 (8-4). Bone led the offensive onslaught with four shots. Team captain Zane Moxley anchored the Falcons' impressive defense, logging a team-high 84 minutes on the pitch.
Junior goalkeeper Andrea Seazzu registered four saves while recording his 12th win and sixth shutout on the season. Ben Blessing, who closed out the final 18-minutes of the match, recorded an impressive save in the waning minutes of the match.
"I was really pleased with the way we came out from start to finish," said head coach Doug Hill. "We started off pacey and kept the pressure going on their backs. An attractive style of offensive gave us plenty opportunities to score and we were able to capitalize on four of them."
"It was good to mix the scoring," continued Hill. "We got to see a lot of our young players make it onto the field and get quality time. The experience they get now will help us succeed as we move into the remainder of conference play and beyond. Overall, we kept the shutout at home and earned a proper and thorough win from our backs to our forwards."
Air Force continues its home stretch with a pair of matches against San Jose State and Seattle U, Oct. 18 and Oct. 20, respectively. Both matches are slated for a 6 p.m. start at Cadet Soccer Stadium.
