
Andres scores six in 15-14 win over Santa Clara

PALO ALTO, Calif. – Junior Luke Andres scored a career high six goals to lead Air Force to a 15-14 win over Santa Clara in the final game of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament, Sunday, Oct. 14, in Palo Alto, Calif. The Falcons posted a 2-2 record in a 16-team tournament that featured 11 of the top 12 teams in the nation.
Andres and Edward Smet scored two in the first but the Falcons fell behind 4-2. Andres' second of the game cut the Broncos' lead to 4-3 early in the second. However, the teams traded goals as the Falcons trailed 8-6 at the half.
Goals by Smet and Reagan Pittman tied the score at 8-8 early in the third. Harrison and two more by Andres put the Falcons up 11-9 late in the third quarter. In the final two minutes of the third, Campbell Harris and Andres scored as the Falcons led 13-12 entering the fourth quarter.
Smet's fifth goal of the game gave the Falcons a 14-12 lead, but the Broncos scored the next two to tie the game with 2:51 remaining. Senior team captain Ryan Dorris netted the game-winner with 37 seconds left in the fourth and the Falcon defense stood tall on the final possession.
Andres and Smet combined for 11 of the team's 15 goals. Campbell Harris scored two, while Pittman and Dorris each had one. Sophomore goalie James Burke made five saves for the Falcons.
Air Force (6-11 overall, 2-2 WWPA) returns to conference play with a road game at seventh-ranked UC Davis, Friday, Oct. 19, at 1 p.m. MT. The Falcons nearly upset the Aggies last week at the MPSF Tournament, falling, 13-12.
