
Falcons drop two at Julian Fraser Tournament

Air Force fell to No. 20 Wagner and No. 17 Bucknell
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Air Force water polo team lost a pair of close games at the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament, Oct. 21, in Santa Clara, Calif.
In the first game, Campbell Harris and Luke Andres each scored three goals in an 11-8 loss to 20th-ranked Wagner. Harris' goal late in the first quarter tied the game at 1-1, Jason Hires' goal in the second cut the Wagner lead to 3-2, but the Seahawks scored three unanswered goals for a 6-2 lead in the third quarter. Air Force scored three unanswered goals late in the third, and early in the fourth, to cut the Wagner lead to 8-6. Justin Harrison scored once and Andres twice in the run. After two Seahawk goals, Andres and Hires cut the Seahawk lead to 10-8 with 3:34 left. However, Wagner sealed the win with a goal at 1:08 of the fourth.
In the second game, No. 17 Bucknell defeated the Falcons, 16-13. Trailing 2-1 entering the second quarter, the teams combined for nine goals in the second quarter. Goals by Harrison and Andres cut the Bison lead to 4-3. After another Harrison goal, Bucknell scored two unanswered for a 7-4 lead. Andres scored with 1:40 left in the second as the Falcons trailed 7-5 at the half. Bucknell scored the first four goals of the third for an 11-5 lead. Henry Yavitt, Neil Reynolds and Mike Miller scored late in the quarter. Harrison, Smet and Pittman all scored early in the fourth to cut the Bison lead to 12-11 with 5:06 left. The Bison answered with three straight for a 15-11 advantage. Harris and Miller scored late in the fourth.
Air Force (6-14, 2-3 WWPA), returns home to host Fresno Pacific in a Western Water Polo Association game, Saturday, Oct. 27, at noon MT at the Cadet Natatorium. It is the final home game for five seniors: Nathan Kuypers, George Millard, Justin Harrison, Edward Smet and Ryan Dorris.
