The Falcons will face their conference counterparts in San Diego on Friday, Oct. 26.
Championship season begins for the Air Force cross country program this week, as the team travels to San Diego, Calif., this Friday (Oct. 26) for the 2018 Mountain West Cross Country Championships. The Falcons' lineup, which includes the 16th-ranked men and a women's squad that is receiving votes in the most recent national poll, will face their conference counterparts at Balboa Park.
MEET INFORMATION
The Mountain West Cross Country Championships, which will be held throughout Morley Field at Balboa Park in San Diego. The women will kick off the championship meet with a 6K race at 9:00 a.m. (PT), while the men will follow with an 8K race at 9:45 a.m. (please note, the start times were recently moved up one hour). Live results will be available via FinishedResults.com, while FloTrack will broadcast the meet through their FloPro subscription service.
THE STARTING LINE
Air Force has entered 18 runners into the Mountain West Championships. Jacob Bilvado, Hunter Boyer, Mickey Davey, Scott Johnson, Alec Schrank, Trevor Siniscalchi, Patrick Sullivan, Nathan Thomas and Justin Weber will represent the men's team, while Andi Almodovar, Lindsey Blanks, Teri Brady, Shanna Burns, Mikayla Gallagher, Jenna Kill, Maria Mettler, Swathi Samuel and Jaci Smith will toe the line for the Air Force women.

A LOOK AT THE LEAGUE
The Mountain West Championships will feature eight men's teams and 11 women's programs. The men's field includes four nationally-ranked teams (No. 8 Boise State, No. 13 Wyoming, No. 16 Air Force, No. 17 Colorado State), one that is receiving votes (Utah State) and squads from Fresno State, New Mexico and San Jose State. The women's field includes two of the top-three teams in the country (No. 2 Boise State, No. 3 New Mexico), as well as No. 27 Utah State, an Air Force team that is receiving votes, and teams from Colorado State, Fresno State, Nevada, San Diego State, San Jose State, UNLV and Wyoming.
CONFERENCE HISTORY
Five schools have captured men's team titles at the Mountain West Championships, with former conference opponent BYU leading the way with nine (99-00-01-02-04-05-06-07-08). New Mexico (09-10-11-12-13-14), Air Force (03-15), Boise State (16) and Colorado State (17) have also collected MW titles. On the women's side, New Mexico (ten, 08-09-10-11-12-13-14-15-16-17) and BYU (eight, 99-00-01-02-03-04-05-06) have combined for 18 of the last 19 team championships, with Colorado State claiming the remaining title in 2007.

Highlighted by two team titles and nine runner-up finishes, the men have placed within the top three of the Mountain West Championships 18 times in the last 19 years. The women, who captured runner-up honors for the first time in program history at the 2016 meet, have finished third six times and finished within the top half of the field 14 times in 19 years.

Since the Mountain West was formed in 1999, Air Force has seen 35 men combine for 60 all-conference awards, including one individual champion and 25 first-team selections. Isaiah Bragg became the program's first MW champion in 2013, while Ben Payne is the program's only four-time all-MW honoree. On the women's side, 11 women have combined for 15 all-MW honors, with Hannah Everson (three), Melissa Fuerst (two) and Jaci Smith (two) earning all-conference distinction multiple times. With third-place finishes, Everson (2015) and Carina Gillespie (2016) have accounted for the Falcons' best individual finishes.

In addition to their success in the Mountain West, the men also captured three team titles and two individual championships as members of the Western Athletic Conference. The Falcons won WAC team titles in 1991, 1994 and 1996, while Chris Nelson (1990, 1991) and Eric Mack (1995) claimed individual championships.
BOTH SQUADS MENTIONED IN USTFCCCA STANDINGS
For the first time this season, both cross country teams were mentioned in the Oct. 16 edition of the USTFCCCA coaches' poll. The women received their first national votes of the year – sitting just 11 points out of the top-30, while the men returned to No. 16. It is the 10th time in program history that both Air Force squads are mentioned in the same USTFCCCA poll (twice in 2016, seven times in 2017).
