Men Split Friday Bouts with Navy

RJ Leon was named the Academy's Boxer of the Week.
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – The Air Force boxing team split its annual showdown with service academy rival Navy this afternoon (Oct. 5), as the two programs battled to a 3-3 tie in front of a packed house inside the Cadet Gym Boxing Room. Junior RJ Leon, one of the Falcons' three champions, was selected as the Academy's Boxer of the Week.
Leon opened the event with a 120-pound victory over Navy's Jake Clary, while classmate Cenada Clifton-Smith earned a decision over Alex Olajide in the 170-pound contest and senior James "Levi" Knox II decisioned Charlie Akerblom at 175 pounds. Juniors Ife Onigbanjo (145 pounds, vs Toshie Oue), Levi Rate (156 pounds, vs Kendall Louis) and Nick Pingel (185 pounds, vs Jay Packer) also represented the Falcons in the annual showdown, but dropped their respective bouts.
Three members of the women's club team competed against their Navy counterparts today, with Abigail Aldecoa leading Air Force to a 1-2 mark. Aldecoa won her 132-pound bout with Lisa Kilmer, while Laura Drapinski dropped a 119-pound contest to Sophie Leckas and Ketanny Alves lost a 156-pound decision to Jeanette Steadman.
The Falcons return to action on Friday, Oct. 19, when they travel to Reno for a dual meet with Nevada.
