Air Force Lacrosse will play five games at home under team captains Carter, Flynn and Jones
USAF Academy, Colo. - Head coach Bill Wilson and Air Force lacrosse announced the 2019 schedule and team captains, Tuesday afternoon. The Falcons will host five games at the Academy under senior team captains Cameron Carter, Jack Flynn and Brandon Jones.
"We recently had our team captain vote," said coach Wilson. "Carter, Flynn and Jones were elected by their peers. I am proud of the hard work our men have put in during the fall season and believe they did a fine job selecting these three men."
"In August, our men established our team standards," continued Wilson. "One of which is to strive toward excellence in everything we do. We are fortunate to not only have three captains who exemplify that standard, but an entire team that steps up and brings it every day. We will go as far as our leaders drive us and I look forward to watching the team continue to grow and take shape leading into the month of February."
The Falcons will take the field for the first time in exhibition play on the road against perennial powerhouses, Virginia and Notre Dame, Jan. 19 and 26, respectively.
Air Force's regular season kicks off against NCAA heavyweight and longtime rivals, University of Denver, Feb. 9, in Denver. The game marks the first of three to be played in Denver during the month of February. The Falcons will play Cleveland State and Utah, in Denver's Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium for the Denver Pioneer Classic, Feb. 23 and 24, respectively. The 2019 season marks Utah's inaugural year in NCAA lacrosse.
Air Force opens the home slate against Marist on Feb. 16. It is the first of five home games to be played at Falcon Stadium. Detroit Mercy comes to the Academy, Mar. 6, followed by Southern Conference foes, Jacksonville (Mar. 30), Richmond (Apr. 13), and Bellarmine (Apr. 27).
The Falcons schedule is highlighted by a game against the 2018 National Champions, Yale, on Tuesday, Mar. 26, in New Haven, Connecticut.
Following the game against Yale, Air Force will finish off the schedule in conference action, playing for a spot in the Southern Conference tournament to be hosted by High Point, May 2-4, in High Point, North Carolina.
A tournament championship would yield the Falcons' automatic berth into the NCAA National Tournament, which commences the weekend of May 11-12. Championship rounds will be played at Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
